On controller 2 press A, B, Y and X then, controller 1 press A, B, X to put the game into the cheat mode and a number will show up on the left side of the screen.

To start the game with 99 Lives enter the code: 1 1 1 1 1
To start the game with 99 Lives and the hearts enter the code: L 1 1 1 L
When You continue a game, enter the password 5 9 3 1 7 2. You will begin the game at the start of Level 3, with 99 of each weapon.
With this trick you can double the credits that you normally start the game with. At the Title Screen hold Up and the L and R buttons, then pass Start. When you are defeated, you will find that you have six continues instead of the normal three.
